These lists are primarily intended for scholarly discussions, announcements, and/or networking among academics, graduate students, and independent scholars. Non-academics are usually welcome, but the professional scholarly nature of these lists should be kept in mind. (On these lists it is not appropriate to discuss historical recreation issues, such as those related to the SCA or renaissance fairs, or to ask basic beginner's questions about medieval Scotland -- for these purposes, see the Non-Academic lists below or start with some of the publications in The Scottish Medieval Bibliography.)
Studies@MedievalScotland E-mailing list for Medieval Scottish Studies
Historia-Scotarum E-mailing list for Historia Scotarum: The Scottish Pre-modern Women's History Group
ScotPlace An independant forum affiliated to the Scottish Place-Name Society for queries and discussion on all aspects of Scottish place-names and their history, and their relationship to Irish, Breton, Cornish, Welsh, English, Danish, Norwegian and other regions' and nationalities' place- and personal-names.
H-Albion An international electronic forum for the discussion of British and Irish history. H-Albion is a member of the H-Net consortium hosted by Michigan State University. The primary purpose of H-Albion is to enable historians more easily to discuss research interests, teaching methods and the state of historiography. H-Albion is especially interested in methods of teaching history to graduate and undergraduate students in diverse settings.
Albanach E-mailing list at Yahoo Groups for Albanach, a group within the Society for Creative Anachronism devoted to the study and re-creation of Scottish life between the years 503 and 1603 AD. Any topic having to do with the history, culture, or traditions of mainland Scotland or the Isles (including the Shetlands) between the arrival of the Gaels in 503 and the succession of King James VI of Scotland to the English throne in 1603 is appropriate for this list. Their goals are to share information and help each other better recreate medieval Scottish life.
Celtic-Hist E-mailing list at Yahoo Groups created as a way to connect people interested in re-enacting Celtic culture (through the SCA and other groups) from all over the world. While the focus is expected to be on the Irish Gaels, discussions on all "Celtic" cultures will be welcomed.
